I love this city! Seriously… I could live here one day. We headed down south a couple weekends ago with some friends for Andrew’s first American college football game. We watched the Washington Huskies take on the Colorado Buffaloes.
He couldn’t believe the atmosphere of an American football game. It rivals that of a CFL game up here in Canada… I would argue its better! There’s more people, its louder and its rowdier! Better believe it. America. Freedom.
All joking aside, I love the crazy love Americans have for their sports. When I was younger, I remember going to the University of Michigan football and basketball games when we lived near Ann Arbor. As a kid, it was just as cool as going to an NFL or NBA game–everyone got all dressed up and joined in the group cheers. It’s nice to feel a part of something bigger… something greater than yourself, even for just one game. It’s an atmosphere I certainly missed out of when I attended university in Canada.
The good news is there is no need to prove you went to that particular university to cheer on the local team or even live in the same town to join in the fun! Just show up, wear the team’s colors and scream as loud as you can when they score a touchdown and you’ll fit right in. American or not.
Speaking of the craziness that is America… did you see this? It made me smile because its ridiculous but still ridiculously cool. Better believe it. America. Freedom.
